The
F7 was introduced by General Motors in the early 1950's
and for many years was the mainstay of many roads. It was
the huge success of these locos that dealt the final blow
to the steam era. And though designed for freight service,
many F7's were successfully used in passenger service as
well--the most famous of these was the Santa Fe.
Bachmann has re-released their F7's in a new Spectrum A/B
set version. Models include a five-pole skew-wound motor,
pillow block bearing in gear towers, new gear mechanism,
accurate nose contour, operating headlight in the A unit,
teardrop windows, diecast chassis, all-wheel pickup and
blackened wheels with NMTRA wheel profile. Both the A and
B units are powered, equipped with Rapido style couplers.
As the above photo hopefully conveys, both painting and
printing are excellent on these locos.
